The primary treatment option is surgery, while there is no standard treatment for metastatic disease. As the number of PCs diagnosed yearly is increasing, there is a need to establish novel therapeutic options. OBJECTIVE Introduction: Bronchopulmonary (BP) carcinoids are low and intermediate grade tumors, seen in adults between fourth to sixth decade, where no clear association with tobacco smoking is established. Most often they are sporadic lesions (95%). Half of patients have no symptoms and the tumor is incidentally found on a chest x- ray. Performance of Finnish biobanks in nationwide pulmonary carcinoid tumour research

Finnish hospital-integrated biobanks administer millions of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue samples collected within the clinical diagnostics. According to the Finnish Biobank Act, these samples can be coupled with patients’ clinical follow-up data and the data retrieved from national health registries. We collected a nationwide pulmonary carcinoid tumour series from Finnish biobanks to study prognostic factors as well as to explore how the number of tumours found in the Finnish biobanks corresponds to the number of tumours registered by the Finnish Cancer Registry (FCR). Objective: Yo evaluate methods of diagnosis and treatment, and the long term survival of patients treated for bronchial carcinoid tumor by the review of recent literature. Methods: The Authors conducted a retrospective study on internet-based-evidence of patients treated for bronchial car-cinoid tumor since 1993 to 2004. Symptoms, diagnosis, operative approach and survival were assessed.
